    Frequently asked questions

Tooth decay begins with small changes on the surface of the enamel, often in areas that are difficult to clean. As this damage progresses, a cavity is formed in the tooth tissue, which must be drilled and sealed. In missed cases, the filling will be deep, close to or even touching the pulp (nerves and blood vessels) of the tooth. By early diagnosis of the initial surface caries damage, it is possible to stop it by treating with dental caries prevention agents. The gold standard is to visit the dentist once every 6-12 months, depending on the risk of caries.

Specialists of different levels are involved in oral care, each with their own specialization and level of competence. The dentist is trained to perform a full oral examination, diagnose and treat carious dental lesions, as well as develop and manage the patient’s preventive regimen. Most modern dentists perform examinations using optical aids with a magnification function, which help to diagnose even initial and small damages on the surface of the tooth. The dentist determines the caries risk of each patient and, depending on it, performs an individually suitable x-ray diagnosis once a year, every two or more times. Often, only an x-ray can show damage to the teeth that already needs repair.

During a full oral examination, all tissues related to the oral cavity are examined. The lymph nodes of the face and neck are examined, the jaw joint is examined, and the mucous membrane of the oral cavity is examined in order to detect and investigate malignant or benign formations of the oral cavity in time. The gums are examined and the risks of periodontitis are determined. The tooth is examined using optical magnifying devices and a special light. The bite is evaluated and risk factors for tooth tissue loss are analyzed. An integral part of modern dental practice are diagnostic X-rays, which are performed under safe conditions and adjusted to individual caries risk.

Oral health is closely related to general health. Often, the first symptoms of a general illness appear directly in the oral cavity, as well as pathological changes in the mouth can be part of some general illness of the body. It is also necessary for the dentist to know the medications used regularly, as many medications have an effect on the oral cavity. It helps to identify risk factors for tooth decay and develop a plan to avoid this decay. In addition to all of the above, in the event of a medical emergency, the dentist needs to know all illnesses and medications used, as this can save the patient’s life.
